An exciting urban form to a landmark in Rio de Janeiro.
The project was an entry for an international private contest for the redevelopment of the marina and its preparation to perform as an Olympic nautical facility.
The design intent was based on linking the commercial components of marina to its surroundings while providing a world-class nautical facility. The strategy was to connect to the Flamengo Park and the adjacencies, extending the park.
The project was 2nd awarded in a private contest for the development of an Olympic nautical facility. The main challenges were the relationship with the surrounding park and heritage listed monuments, and the connection to the city.
The brief included the marina and support facilities, tourism terminal, restaurants and cultural, exhibition and convention center, as well as transportation and adjacent hospitality and leisure developments.
The project gives priority to an efficient – yet generic – layout, the park, and its landscape. As it raises slowly towards the marina the parks cover the roof surfaces extending itself.
